Southwestern Rawhide Spirit Basket Fur Feather Beads Arizona 1999
Large handcrafted Southwestern decorative basket labeled “P’Sawagnake (The Sioux name for basket)” with the original descriptive tag included. Made in Arizona and dated Nov. 1999, this striking piece features rawhide construction with braided leather lacing forming triangular panel designs around the sides. The rim is finished with a thick fur trim, while the exterior is decorated with feather drops accented by beads and concho-style ornaments.
The included card explains the symbolism of the basket: “In an ancient legend it is said that the wefts of a basket represent health, prosperity, harmony, hope, happiness, fertility and faith. The basketmaker then weaves a warp of love to form a vessel.” The basket incorporates natural materials including fur, feathers, beads, leather, and rawhide, giving it a bold Plains-inspired Southwestern aesthetic. A distinctive decorative piece ideal for rustic, lodge, or Southwestern décor.
