Sony TFM-850W AM/FM Transistor Radio Portable Vintage 1965
Vintage Sony TFM-850W portable AM/FM transistor radio, maker marked “Sony Corp., Tokyo Japan.” Introduced around 1965, this compact radio reflects Sony’s early leadership in portable transistor electronics. The design features a black perforated speaker grille, silver-tone trim panel marked “FM AM,” and a large circular analog tuning dial with a brushed aluminum center. The radio contains an 8-transistor superheterodyne circuit and receives FM frequencies from 86.5–108 MHz and AM from 530–1605 kHz.
A telescoping antenna provides FM reception while an internal ferrite bar antenna handles AM. Powered by a single 9-volt battery, the slim rectangular form made it a convenient pocket or travel radio during the expanding FM broadcast era of the mid-1960s. Its classic styling and early Sony engineering make it appealing to collectors of vintage electronics and mid-century portable audio equipment.
Condition:
Good condition and fully functional; tested. Battery compartment is clean and free of corrosion. Visible scuffing and general wear are present on the verso and interior battery panel consistent with age and prior use. Please review photos carefully for additional details.
