Vintage Mexican Spanish Colonial Trastero Cabinet — Carved Cedro, Fretwork Doors
A vintage two-part Mexican Spanish Colonial trastero hutch cabinet in solid cedro (Spanish Cedar, Cedrela odorata), produced in the hacienda tradition. The upper section features a pair of doors with open geometric fretwork composed of hand-cut interlocking spindle lattice — the defining feature of the trastero yugo form — flanked by stacked relief-carved acanthus scroll panels and topped by an arched pediment with foliate volutes and a central shell motif. Two fixed interior shelves, each 15" tall, are accessible behind the lattice doors. The lower cabinet carries two doors with bold, deeply undercut acanthus scroll carving set within recessed fielded panels, raised on a scalloped skirt apron with brass escutcheon hardware throughout. The piece separates cleanly into two stacking sections for transport.
CONDITION
Good. Hand-carved surfaces retain strong, crisp relief throughout, with age-appropriate chipping, scratches, dings, and dents consistent with vintage use. Several lattice spindles on the upper door panels show splits at their joinery intersections, and the back panel of the upper section exhibits surface scratching and minor finish loss. No remarkable structural damage.
