Description

Amalia Mora Mata Ortiz Olla — Black-on-Red Geometric, Iron Stand

A hand-built Mata Ortiz pottery olla by Amalia Mora, working in the Casas Grandes tradition of Chihuahua, Mexico. Built without a wheel from locally sourced clay and fired using traditional open-ground methods, the globular red-slip body rises to a short cylindrical neck with an everted rim. The entire painted surface is covered in bold black geometry — interlocking triangles, stepped diamonds, and radiating line clusters forming a dense, all-over field pattern in the classic Paquimé-derived style. The artist's signature, "Amalia Mora," is inscribed on the base.

The lot includes a black iron display stand.

CONDITION Good. The form is intact and the painted design reads well overall. Scratching and scuffing present throughout the surface, consistent with display and handling wear.
