California “RED ICE” Vanity Plates — Sesquicentennial Pair, 150 Years
Pair of authentic California Sesquicentennial – 150 Years vanity license plates featuring the personalized lettering RED ICE. These were part of a short-lived commemorative issue celebrating the 150th anniversary of California’s statehood (1850–2000). Produced between 1998 and 2000, this series used the standard reflective white base with embossed blue characters and the signature red script California at top, accented by the anniversary slogan along the lower border.
This lot includes one clean, unused plate and one period-used example displaying original MAY and 2001 registration stickers. Together they represent both a display-quality specimen and a genuine in-use survivor from the final years of the Sesquicentennial issue. A distinctive find for collectors of California automobilia, vanity plates, or late 20th-century state commemoratives.
Condition
Both plates are in very good condition overall. The unused plate retains bright color and near-mint gloss with minimal handling wear. The used plate shows light surface toning and small marks consistent with normal use, with original 2001 stickers intact.
Dimensions
Each plate measures approximately 12 x 6 inches.
