Adlake Kero 1-53 Railroad Lantern, Armspear Burner, Copper Finish
Classic Adlake “Kero” railroad lantern, model 1-53, made in the U.S.A. and Canada circa early 1950s. Constructed of steel with an attractive copper-plated finish, this example features a clear glass globe embossed ADLAKE KERO and a burner marked Armspear Mfg. Co., a known supplier to Adams & Westlake during this period. The ventilated top and heavy wire guard embody Adlake’s durable, short-globe design widely adopted by North American railroads from the 1930s through the mid-20th century.
An authentic piece of working railroad history, this lantern represents the transition to more efficient kerosene signal lighting used by brakemen and yard crews across the U.S. and Canada. Its period craftsmanship, matched components, and warm patina make it an appealing addition for collectors of railroad memorabilia or vintage industrial décor.
Condition
Good overall condition with visible patina and light surface oxidation consistent with age and use. No remarkable damage; clear glass globe is intact with minor wear only. Burner and frame appear complete but are untested.
