St. Francis of Assisi Wrought Iron Church Sign — Scrollwork Bracket

A substantial double-sided wrought iron blade sign of the type used for American Catholic parish identification throughout the mid-20th century, reading "St. Francis of Assisi" in bold cut-through black lettering on a curved, fan-shaped aluminum panel. The hand-forged scrollwork bracket — with flourishes at both upper and lower corners and a turned ball finial at the horizontal terminus — delivers the scale and visual authority that reproduction ironwork cannot. Downward-facing hooks along the lower bar indicate an original hanging element, lantern or secondary panel, was once part of the installation.

At over four feet wide and 125–150 lbs, this is an architectural statement piece: equally at home commanding a restaurant entryway, anchoring a courtyard wall, or serving as a focal point in a high-ceiling interior. The accumulated patina and paint loss are the product of decades of outdoor service and read as authentic at any distance.

CONDITION Fair. The iron framework is structurally sturdy with all scrollwork intact and the aluminum panel firmly seated. Paint loss and surface rust are present throughout, consistent with long-term outdoor installation; the patina is intact and stable.
