1950s Templeton Kenly Simplex A17 15-Ton Ratchet Jack, Broadview IL, 13" Lift
Industrial Simplex A17 mechanical ratchet jack manufactured by Templeton Kenly & Co., Broadview, Illinois, USA. Marked “LIFT 13 INCH” and “TEMPLETON KENLY & CO / BROADVIEW ILL. USA”, this heavy-duty model features a 15-ton capacity and 13-inch lift, with cast aluminum housing, steel gearing, and dual lift points at both toe and cap. The handle is stamped 217A-2, identifying it as part of the A17 series widely used for railroad and industrial maintenance in the mid-20th century.
Founded in 1899 in Chicago, Templeton Kenly pioneered the Simplex® ratchet jack, earning a 1913 American Museum of Safety Gold Medal for its reliable, safe design. The company’s jacks became standard equipment for railroad and construction crews and were later used during both World Wars. Under Walter and John Templeton’s direction, Simplex grew into one of America’s most respected names in industrial lifting technology.
A robust, fully functional example of American engineering history—perfect for display, use, or any serious tool or railroad collection.
