Description

1940s Mexican Folk Art Ladderback Chair — Hand-Painted Florals, Rush Seat

A 1940s Mexican ladderback side chair in the painted folk furniture tradition associated with artisan workshops in Michoacán, Puebla, and Jalisco. The solid pine frame is painted in a bold mustard yellow throughout, with three arched back slats each carrying hand-painted polychrome floral bouquets — red and blue dahlias with green foliage — consistent with mid-century Mexican folk painting traditions. The turned stiles and stretchers retain gilt ring accents at each section. The woven rush seat is executed in a basket-weave pattern and remains functional.

A natural fit for hacienda-style, Southwestern, or maximalist interiors, and a strong addition to any Mexican folk art collection. Please refer to the Condition section before purchasing.

CONDITION

Good. Fully functional and tested. The rush seat is intact and the frame is sturdy throughout. The mustard yellow paint shows scattered chipping and loss consistent with age-appropriate wear, most heavily at the feet and post caps where bare wood is exposed.
