1940s Mexican Folk Art Ladderback Chair — Hand-Painted Florals, Rush Seat
A 1940s Mexican ladderback side chair in the painted folk furniture tradition associated with artisan workshops in Michoacán, Puebla, and Jalisco. The solid pine frame is painted hunter green with gilt ring accents at every turning — a hallmark of Spanish Colonial-influenced craft from this period. Both shaped back slats and the seat rail carry hand-painted polychrome floral garlands in red, yellow, white, and blue with gold scrollwork borders. The rush seat is woven in a tight herringbone pattern and remains fully intact.
A natural fit for hacienda-style, Southwestern, or maximalist interiors, and a strong addition to any serious Mexican folk art collection. Please refer to the Condition section before purchasing.
CONDITION
Good. Fully functional and sturdy. Rush seat is intact with no breaks or unraveling. Green and gilt paint shows scattered chipping and loss — most notably on the post caps where bare wood is exposed — consistent with age-appropriate wear.
