Brad Loving Studio Kachina Pair — Terra Cotta, 22K Gold & Platinum Glaze
This is a matched pair of hand-built kachina wall sculptures by Brad Loving of Loving Design Studio, based in Sedona, Arizona. From Loving's original Kachina Collection — an abstract interpretation of Hopi "Spirits of the Ancients," with each figure characterized by distinct symbols and ceremonial personations. The studio's tag notes additional inspiration from the rock art of the Ute and Anasazi peoples of the Colorado River plateau and Four Corners region.
Both figures are hand-formed from terra-cotta clay and finished with high-fire glazes accented in 22K gold and platinum — which gives the geometric surface inlays a rich warmth and luminosity against the naturally textured terracotta body. One figure, identified on its original tag as "Medicine Man," holds a ceremonial disc in one hand and a staff in the other, its torso adorned with layered stepped fretwork in cream, teal, and gold. The companion figure carries a similar ceremonial stance, with platinum-bright horizontal banding and a bold sun-disc element at the chest. Both pieces are signed "Loving" on the reverse and retain their original studio hang tags.
Brad Loving's kachina wall sculptures are sought by collectors of American studio pottery, Pueblo-inspired decorative arts, and Santa Fe–style interiors.
CONDITION
Good. Both figures are free of chips, cracks, or repairs, and the 22K gold and platinum glaze accents remain bright and well-adhered across each piece. The original hang tags on both show light toning and handling wear consistent with age, and light surface scuffs are present on the unglazed terracotta areas of both figures.
