Description

Eva Klein-Lamb Tulum, City of the Dawn — “Secret Temples” Series, Colored Ink on Paper

Original colored-ink drawing by Eva Klein-Lamb (American, 1926–1993), titled Tulum, City of the Dawn, from her Secret Temples of the Plumed Serpent series (Faces & Places). This intricately detailed work captures the ancient Mayan ruins of Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico, rendered in rich sepia and ochre tones with Klein-Lamb’s signature calligraphic ink technique. The artist’s warm palette and expressive line evoke both the mystique and sun-drenched stillness of the Yucatán coast.

Klein-Lamb was an American illustrator and visual artist active during the mid-20th century, known to have illustrated The Courageous Cat (1969) and to have lived in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Her Secret Temples series likely reflects her travels and fascination with Mesoamerican history. This example is signed “Tulum” lower right and retains the artist’s original hand-lettered label on the verso. Framed and double-matted under glass in a contemporary black frame.

An evocative piece of regional and cultural art, bridging the American Southwest and Mexico’s ancient heritage — a distinctive addition for collectors of travel-themed or archaeological subjects.

Condition:
Good overall condition with no remarkable damage. Artwork and mat are clean, colors remain vivid, and the frame shows only minimal wear consistent with display.

Dimensions:
Overall (framed): 14 ¾ × 17 ½ inches
Visible (sight): 7 ¼ × 10 ½ inches
