Description

Petrified Wood Trunk Section 15.5" — 83 lbs, Bark Texture

This 83-pound petrified wood trunk section is consistent with Triassic-era conifer material from the American Southwest, most likely Araucarioxylon arizonicum, the dominant tree species of the Chinle Formation and Arizona's state fossil. The original outer bark is fully preserved in silica, mineralized across warm ochres, rusts, tans, and deep charcoal with iron oxide reds and manganese-black zones typical of Chinle Formation specimens. Vertical grain striations and deeply furrowed, irregularly plated bark ridges are intact across all four faces, and the piece stands freestanding without support.

At over fifteen inches tall and eighty-three pounds, this is a substantial display specimen suited for indoor or outdoor placement — and the seller will assist with loading.

CONDITION

Good, with signs of outdoor use. The specimen retains strong color contrast and well-defined surface relief throughout. Minor surface spalling and shallow flaking present along the upper left edge and base perimeter; some darkening and weathering patina to the outer bark face consistent with exterior display.
