British Colonial 4-Door Cabinet, Solid Wood, c.1920
Evoking the quiet grandeur of the British Colonial era, this solid-wood cabinet from the 1920s exemplifies the union of European design and artisanal craftsmanship found throughout the colonies. Hand-planed surfaces, panel-backed construction, and a mellow wax finish reveal the maker’s intimate dialogue with the material—each plane mark and joint a record of patient work.
The four paneled doors open to reveal two fixed-shelf compartments (top shelf 10¼" high, bottom shelf 15½" high), offering ample space for linens, books, or cherished objects. Hints of aged green pigment whisper of its original painted finish, now softened into a rich patina that only decades of life can create.
Condition
Good condition, with age-appropriate wear to finish and surfaces. Authentically rustic, structurally sound, and ready for continued use.
