Pair of hand-carved and painted copal wood alebrijes by Roxana and Jesús Hernández of Copal Mágico, Tilcajete, Oaxaca, Mexico. The set includes a vivid orange-red howling wolf and a blue goat with black-and-white spiral horns, each richly decorated in the Hernández family’s signature geometric and dotted motifs. These imaginative forms exemplify the high level of artistry found in contemporary Oaxacan woodcarving.

Roxana and Jesús Hernández are among the leading artisans of San Martín Tilcajete, a village celebrated for its tradition of copal wood alebrijes. Their workshop, Copal Mágico, continues the legacy of multi-generational Zapotec carving, blending ancestral technique with bold modern design and intricate brushwork. Their work has been exhibited internationally and is prized by collectors for its fine craftsmanship and dynamic color.
