Hopi Koopa’tsoki Painted Wood Rainbow Dance Headdress
Brilliantly hand-painted Hopi koopa’tsoki (rainbow dance headdress) from Second Mesa, crafted of wood and leather and painted on both sides in vivid hues of turquoise, red, yellow, white, and blue. The arched form and stepped terraces symbolize clouds and the rainbow—sacred emblems of fertility, rain, and balance within the natural world. Such headdresses are worn during Hopi ceremonial dances celebrating the life-giving power of water and the renewal of the seasons.
The tooled leather headband and hand-painted geometric design exemplify the artistry and symbolism of Pueblo ceremonial tradition, joining craftsmanship with spiritual meaning in a timeless expression of harmony between sky and earth.
Condition
Good overall condition with age-appropriate wear. Feathers absent; leather stiff but intact. Minor scuffing and edge wear visible. Paint remains bright and stable on both sides.

Wood, leather; hand-painted, double-sided.
