P.J. Mêne “Setter by Nest” Cast Bronze Sculpture on Stone Base
A cast bronze sculpture “Setter by Nest” by Pierre-Jules Mêne (French, 1810–1879), one of the foremost animalier sculptors of the 19th century. The piece captures a hunting setter frozen in a moment of alert beside a nesting bird, rendered with Mêne’s signature realism and expressive detail. Signed P.J. MENE on the base, it is mounted on a 1.5" polished stone plinth with a brass title plaque and felt-lined underside. The sculpture’s fine modeling and lifelike energy exemplify Mêne’s mastery in depicting the grace and vitality of sporting animals, making it a striking focal point for collectors of fine bronzes and sporting art.
Condition:
Excellent condition overall, with a rich, even patina and no remarkable damage. The stone base remains smooth and intact, and the felt bottom is clean and secure.
Dimensions:
9 x 16 x 6 inches; weight: 23 lbs.
