Antique Bavarian Stepback Cupboard, Handpainted Green & Cream
Antique Bavarian stepback cupboard, 19th century, crafted in solid pine with mortise-and-tenon joinery and hand-cut dovetailed drawers. The design features upper and lower cabinets—each with a fixed interior shelf (10¼" and 10" heights)—and two center drawers fitted with metal bail pulls. The stepped profile and paneled doors reflect traditional Bavarian country furniture forms.
Finished in deep green with contrasting cream panels, the handpainted surface shows desirable age wear revealing the natural pine beneath. This decorative yet utilitarian piece exemplifies the rural craftsmanship of southern Germany, where painted furniture was both functional and artful. A handsome and practical accent for farmhouse, Alpine, or European-country interiors.
Condition
Good, authentically rustic condition. Visible split to the back panel; right top door slightly warped and does not close flush. Scattered dings, dents, and paint loss consistent with age and use. Structurally stable with all doors and drawers operational.
