c.1870–1890 3-Gallon Stoneware Jug w/ Cobalt “3” Stamp
This early 3-gallon stoneware jug dates to approximately 1870–1890, showing the classic ovoid form, buff salt-glazed body, and crisp cobalt “3” capacity stamp typical of late 19th-century American utilitarian production. The jug features a neatly pulled handle, slender spout, and well-proportioned body, all consistent with the post–Civil War refinement seen in regional potteries of the period. It retains its removable cork, adding to its authentic functional character.
Made for everyday household storage of liquids such as cider or vinegar, this piece now offers warm rustic appeal for Americana collectors or period décor settings. Its early construction and clean presentation make it a strong decorative example of traditional stoneware craftsmanship.
CONDITION
In good condition, with minor surface wear and small firing imperfections expected for its age. No remarkable damage is noted, and the cork fits properly. Please review photos for details.
