Description

C.C. Cunningham Textured Abstract Acrylic on Canvas, Signed

This vibrant abstract acrylic on canvas by C.C. Cunningham features the artist’s signature use of bold color, surface relief, and organic linework. Set against layered bands of yellow, green, and soft orange, the composition incorporates raised black forms and fluid contour markings that create rhythmic movement across the textured surface. Cunningham’s distinctive impasto technique is strongly present here, with ridged paint application and embedded surface variations that echo her connection to natural materials and Southwestern light.

The work is signed “C.C. Cunningham” subtly along the lower edge of the composition and again in bold purple script on the back of the canvas. Its deep gallery-wrapped profile, painted on all visible sides, allows the piece to be displayed unframed for a contemporary aesthetic.

Artist Biography:

C.C. Cunningham (American, b. 1949) is a contemporary painter based in Las Cruces, New Mexico, celebrated for her richly textured, color-saturated acrylics that merge abstraction and figuration. Born in Oklahoma, she began sculpting with native clay before pursuing studies at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. Inspired by the landscapes and light of the American Southwest, Cunningham incorporates sand and natural pigments into her layered surfaces, creating tactile works that embody energy, emotion, and a deep connection to the land. Her paintings have been exhibited throughout the Southwest and are held in numerous private collections.
