Elton John Tumbleweed Connection LP — Original 1970 UNI Records 73096, U.S. 1st Pressing
Original 1970 U.S. pressing of Tumbleweed Connection by Elton John, released on UNI Records (catalog #73096). This early stereo edition features the distinctive yellow UNI label with multicolor swirl design and bold green logo. Produced by Gus Dudgeon and arranged by Paul Buckmaster, the album includes classics such as “Country Comfort,” “Burn Down the Mission,” and “Amoreena.” This record captures the peak of John’s early partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin, blending gospel, country, and rock influences in an evocative Americana style.
The textured gatefold sleeve, designed by David Larkham and Ian Beck, depicts a sepia-toned Western railway scene filled with vintage advertisements—an iconic image closely associated with the album’s frontier themes. Widely regarded as one of Elton John’s finest early works, Tumbleweed Connection achieved platinum status and remains a cornerstone of 1970s rock artistry.
Condition:
Vinyl is in very good condition overall, showing light surface marks and faint sleeve scuffs visible under bright light, none expected to significantly affect play. Labels are clean with minimal spindle wear. The gatefold cover shows mild edge rubbing and light shelf wear, retaining strong artwork and legible spine text. Original UNI-branded inner sleeve included. A well-kept example of this classic first pressing.
Dimensions:
Standard 12-inch (30 cm) LP format.
