Miles Davis LP Collection — Bags’ Groove, In a Silent Way, Miles Davis in Europe
This lot of three original Miles Davis vinyl LPs offers exceptional historical breadth, spanning his classic 1950s small-group work, his revolutionary late-1960s fusion breakthrough, and a pivotal early live concert recording.
Bags’ Groove — Prestige LP 7109 (Mono, 1957):
Originally released in 1957 on Prestige (7109), Bags’ Groove compiles two influential 1954 sessions featuring Miles Davis with Milt “Bags” Jackson, Sonny Rollins, Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver, Percy Heath, and Kenny Clarke. The title track is a jazz standard and the album helped establish Rollins compositions like “Oleo,” “Doxy,” and “Airegin.” This pressing on the early yellow “fireworks” Prestige label is a cornerstone of Davis’s post-bop output.
In a Silent Way — Columbia CS 9875 (Stereo, 1969):
Released July 1969, this first U.S. 360 Sound stereo pressing of In a Silent Way captures the moment Davis shifted into electric jazz fusion. Produced by Teo Macero, the seamless two-part suite showcases an all-star lineup including Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Dave Holland, and Tony Williams. This album is widely regarded as a defining moment in modern jazz history.
Miles Davis in Europe — Columbia CL 2183 (Mono, 1964 Promo):
A rare promotional “Radio Station Service – Not For Resale” mono issue of Miles Davis in Europe, this record documents Davis’s performance at the 1963 Antibes Jazz Festival with George Coleman, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams—early incarnations of the Second Great Quintet. Tracks include extended interpretations of “Autumn Leaves,” “Milestones,” “Joshua,” and “Walkin’,” offering a vibrant snapshot of Davis’s live energy and evolving group interplay.
