Description

Miles Davis “Bitches Brew” (1970) + “Tune Up” (1977) 2× Double LP Set

Pair of landmark Miles Davis double LP albums spanning his evolution from 1950s hard bop to 1970s electric fusion. The first, Bitches Brew (Columbia GP 26, 1970), is Davis’s groundbreaking fusion masterpiece—recorded in August 1969 with Teo Macero producing and featuring a stellar ensemble including Wayne Shorter, John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, and Joe Zawinul. This two-record gatefold pressing includes Mati Klarwein’s iconic psychedelic artwork and the Columbia red “360 Sound Stereo” labels, characteristic of early U.S. issues. Tracks include “Pharaoh’s Dance,” “Spanish Key,” and “Miles Runs the Voodoo Down.”

The second album, Tune Up (Prestige P-24077, 1977), is a double-LP compilation highlighting Davis’s early 1950s Prestige sessions. These recordings—featuring Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins, Art Blakey, Horace Silver, and Max Roach—capture Davis’s formative years and cool-jazz sensibility. Originally remastered at Fantasy Studios, the album provides a vital window into the pre-Kind of Blue era. Together, these albums chart the arc of Miles Davis’s artistic transformation, from bebop roots to electric jazz revolution.
