Etta James Tell Mama LP – 1968 Cadet LPS-802 Stereo Original
Original 1968 Tell Mama LP by Etta James, issued on Cadet Records (LPS-802). Recorded at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and produced by Rick Hall, this album includes the legendary tracks “Tell Mama” and “I’d Rather Go Blind.” The blue Cadet labels feature gradient lettering and Chess Producing Corp. rim text, consistent with first U.S. stereo pressings. A cornerstone of Southern soul and one of James’s most acclaimed studio albums.
The cover features the classic Bill Utterback portrait design in brown-red tones, with liner notes by Morry Roth. Includes original Cadet/Chess catalog inner sleeve.
Condition:
Vinyl is Good+ to Very Good with visible surface marks and scattered micro-dust patterns typical of storage; both sides retain strong gloss and play integrity (see detailed photos). Jacket shows moderate ring wear, mild foxing, and corner rub consistent with age. Inner sleeve present with expected handling wear. Labels clean and bright with minimal spindle traces.
Dimensions:
Standard 12-inch LP record (Diameter: 12 inches).
Photographed with inner sleeve for scale.
Summary:
A desirable early stereo pressing of one of Etta James’s defining soul LPs — featuring Muscle Shoals session legends and enduring R&B classics. Essential for collectors of vintage Chess/Cadet soul and 1960s vocal blues.
Don’t miss this cornerstone title in original Cadet issue form.
