Description

Leonard Cohen Columbia LP Collection (4) — Early Albums 1967–1973

A complete set of Leonard Cohen’s first four studio and live albums, all original U.S. Columbia Records pressings: Songs of Leonard Cohen (1967), Songs from a Room (1969), Songs of Love and Hate (1971), and Live Songs (1973). These cornerstone releases trace Cohen’s evolution from poetic folk minimalism to haunting lyrical introspection, including enduring works such as “Suzanne,” “Bird on the Wire,” “Famous Blue Raincoat,” and “Joan of Arc.”

Each album showcases distinctive monochrome portrait and typographic sleeve design by Columbia’s in-house art direction, with photographs by professionals including Machine and S. B. Elrod. The original “360 Sound” stereo labels confirm early pressings. Together, they represent a complete and cohesive first chapter of Cohen’s recording career, ideal for collectors seeking authentic, period-issued vinyl.

Details

All albums retain their original heavyweight jackets and Columbia “360 Sound” red label LPs. Sleeve designs feature Cohen’s striking minimalist imagery:

  • Songs of Leonard Cohen (CS 9533) — sepia portrait cover.
  • Songs from a Room (CS 9767) — stark white jacket, Cohen in silhouette.
  • Songs of Love and Hate (KC 31098) — bold black-and-white typography with smiling portrait.
  • Live Songs (KC 31724) — monochrome photography, typewriter-style text layout.

Each album includes its original printed inner sleeve or plain white replacement as shown.

Condition

Vinyl: Good to Very Good condition overall. Surface scuffing and hairline marks are visible under angled light (see supplemental images), typical of records that have been handled and played with care. No deep scratches observed. Labels are intact and clean with clear text. Records are untested but expected to play with light background noise.

Covers: Moderate ringwear, edge rubbing, and minor corner wear present on all jackets. No seam splits or major structural damage. Typography and images remain clear and attractive, preserving strong shelf appeal.

Overall presentation is cohesive and authentic, offering four early original Cohen LPs in collectible vintage condition.

Dimensions

Each LP: 12 inches (standard 33⅓ RPM format).

A rare opportunity to acquire Leonard Cohen’s defining early albums in original Columbia U.S. pressings, complete and visually consistent. A must-have set for collectors of classic folk, 20th-century songwriting, and first-issue vinyl.

An evocative four-album suite documenting the birth of Leonard Cohen’s recorded legacy.
