Silly Wizard – A Glint of Silver (1986 Green Linnet) & The Best of Silly Wizard (1985 Shanachie) LP Lot
Offered here are two authentic mid-1980s LPs by Silly Wizard, one of Scotland’s most acclaimed folk ensembles.
-
A Glint of Silver – Green Linnet Records, SIF 1070 (1986, U.S. pressing). The band’s final studio album, showcasing Phil and Johnny Cunningham’s masterful arrangements and Andy M. Stewart’s vocals on standouts like “Lover’s Heart” and “The Chill Eastern Winds.”
-
The Best of Silly Wizard – Shanachie Records, Shanachie 79048 (1985, U.S. compilation). A strong retrospective featuring “The Queen of Argyll,” “The Fishermen’s Song,” and “The Valley of Strathmore.”
Both releases capture Silly Wizard’s signature blend of traditional Scottish tunes and contemporary folk artistry, distributed by two cornerstone Celtic labels of the era.
Condition
Both vinyl records appear Good+ to Very Good (G+ / VG) under bright light. The A Glint of Silver disc shows several visible scuffs and light scratches, one longer mark near the runout (see close-up), likely producing minor background noise or light pops but not deep gouges. The Best of Silly Wizard LP presents moderate surface wear but no major defects or warping. Labels remain clean and legible. Jackets (not shown here) display typical shelf wear and corner rubs consistent with age, without seam splits. Playback quality should be strong after professional cleaning.
Dimensions
Each standard LP measures 12 inches in diameter.
Collector Notes
- A Glint of Silver marks Silly Wizard’s final studio recording before their disbandment in 1988.
- The Best of Silly Wizard compiles material from earlier releases on Highway and Shanachie, serving as their definitive U.S. introduction.
- Both LPs were issued by respected folk labels Green Linnet and Shanachie, making them essential for Celtic music collectors.
