The Who Tommy — 1969 U.S. 1st Pressing
riginal 1969 first U.S. pressing of Tommy by The Who, issued by Decca Records under catalog number DXSW 7205. This double LP features the classic Decca rainbow “STEREOPHONIC” label, with production credits to Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp and matrix numbers consistent with early Decca pressings (DL 75126 / 7-11976 series).
A groundbreaking rock opera, Tommy includes such iconic tracks as Pinball Wizard, The Acid Queen, and I’m Free. The set is housed in its original gatefold cover featuring the distinctive blue lattice artwork with cloud and dove imagery by Mike McInnerney and printed lyrics inside. This release was recorded in England and represents the first major concept album from The Who, later adapted into both film and stage productions.
This example retains its matching Decca inner sleeves and presents the early pressing traits sought after by collectors.
Condition
Vinyl shows visible surface scuffs, light marks, and minor groove wear typical of play, but retains good gloss overall. Labels are clean with only light spindle wear. Jacket displays moderate edge and surface wear, rubbing, and corner fray, yet the artwork remains vibrant and legible. Inner sleeves show mild yellowing with age. Overall graded Good (cover) / Good to Very Good (vinyl) — plays with some background noise but no major skips. Suitable as a solid, collectible first pressing of this essential classic rock album.
