Luterma Bentwood Rocking Chair — Pressed Back, Carved Crest Rail
Attributed to the esteemed Estonian maker Luterma (formerly A.M. Luther), this early 20th-century bentwood rocking chair reflects the signature construction, form, and decorative language of their work. Crafted from solid wood with steam-bent arms, it features a deeply pressed Art Nouveau back panel and matching seat, secured with classic nailhead trim.
The top rail is ornately carved with botanical details, supported by turned spindles and shaped 1.5" front legs—all closely echoing documented, maker-marked Luterma rockers. Though this example is unmarked, its near-identical proportions, pressed motifs, and hardware placement strongly support attribution to Luterma’s renowned Tallinn workshop, active circa 1900–1930.
A timeless fusion of decorative artistry and utilitarian design, this rocker is ideal for collectors of Baltic furniture, Thonet-style pieces, or early modern European design.
Condition:
Good condition overall with expected age-related wear. Finish loss, scattered scuffs, and chipped areas are present. More recent hardware is visible on the rear frame. Evidence of an older restoration is apparent. Solid and sturdy structure. Please examine photos for full condition details.
