Description

Michele Menotti “Child’s Blanket 1885” – Signed Serigraph 11/35, Framed

A striking hand-pulled serigraph by American artist Michele Menotti, Child’s Blanket 1885 reimagines a traditional Navajo child’s weaving in bold modern form. Numbered 11 of just 35, this limited edition work is pencil-signed by the artist lower right and presents a rhythmic chevron pattern in rich red, black, green, and white.

Part of Menotti’s sought-after “Indian Blanket” series, this piece transforms the visual language of 19th-century Southwestern textiles into crisp geometric abstraction. The strong diagonals and color contrasts recall the balance and symmetry found in traditional Diné (Navajo) weaving, interpreted here through the flat, vibrant clarity of fine serigraphy.

The artwork is float-mounted in a minimalist silver-tone metal frame with glass, allowing appreciation of the texture and surface. Professionally matted and ready to hang.

Artist Biography – Michele Menotti

Michele Menotti is an American artist known for her limited edition silkscreen prints interpreting historic Navajo blanket designs. Active in the late 20th century, she produced a focused body of work often referred to as the Indian Blanket Series, including titles such as Chief Blanket 1880, Woman’s Blanket 1850, and Child’s Blanket 1885.

Her editions were typically limited to just 35 impressions and hand-signed. Rather than replicating specific textiles, Menotti distilled the essence of Navajo weaving—bold color fields, stepped motifs, and strong bilateral symmetry—into graphic compositions that bridge cultural tradition and contemporary printmaking. Her works remain sought after in the secondary market for their visual impact and respectful homage to Southwestern textile heritage.
