Cambridge SoundWorks Model 88 Radio by Henry Kloss with Remote Control
This Cambridge SoundWorks Model 88 table radio was designed by celebrated American audio engineer Henry Kloss, a pioneer of high-fidelity loudspeaker and radio technology whose career spanned decades of innovation, including acoustic suspension speakers and early high-end consumer radios. Cambridge SoundWorks itself was co-founded by Kloss in 1988 to deliver well-priced, high-performance audio products directly to consumers.
The Model 88 is distinguished by three-speaker architecture—two full-range drivers coupled with a separate powered woofer for deeper bass—producing fuller, more musical sound than most compact radios of its era. It features a discrete AM/FM tuner with stereo and “Wide” sound modes, six station presets for AM and FM, and auxiliary inputs for external sources.
Complimentary to the radio is the original Model 88 remote control, allowing convenient adjustment of tuning, volume, source selection, and presets. Enthusiasts and reviewers alike have praised the Model 88’s natural tonal balance and surprising bass response, making it one of the more musically effective tabletop radios available in the consumer market.
