Gorham Sterling Silver Candle Snuffer No. 860 — Twisted Handle, c. Early 20th Century
Elegant Gorham Sterling Silver candle snuffer, model No. 860, dating to the early 20th century. Finely crafted with a twisted handle terminating in a curved hook and a smooth bell-shaped extinguisher head. The stem is clearly stamped “GORHAM STERLING 860” and engraved “AAAA.” A superb example of Gorham’s refined silversmithing, balancing function and artistry in a form both sculptural and practical.
Produced circa 1900–1920, this piece reflects Gorham’s transitional design language—bridging ornate Victorian detail and the emerging simplicity of Edwardian style. Ideal for collectors of American sterling or period table accessories, and a sophisticated addition to any silver or decorative arts collection.
Condition
In very good condition, with minor surface wear and faint polishing marks consistent with age and light use. The silver maintains a bright, even sheen. No dents, repairs, or structural flaws noted. Engraving and maker’s marks remain crisp and fully legible.
