Mid-Century Slat Bench / Coffee Table — Made in Yugoslavia, c.1950s
Classic mid-century modern slat bench or coffee table, made in Yugoslavia circa 1950s. Constructed of solid wood with a dark-stained finish, the piece features a minimalist design with six horizontal slats supported by 2" turned legs capped in metal. Each slat measures approximately 0.75" thick, contributing to its sturdy, architectural presence.
This design, strongly reminiscent of George Nelson’s iconic platform benches, reflects the period’s focus on clean lines, versatility, and craftsmanship. Examples of this form were produced in Yugoslavia for export during the mid-20th century, prized for their functionality and enduring modern appeal. Ideal for use as a bench, coffee table, or display surface in a modern or vintage interior.
