This striking Zuni fetish necklace and earring set features (15) hand-carved turquoise dolphins with inlaid onyx eyes, strung between traditional brown shell heishi beads. Each dolphin fetish exhibits unique matrix patterns in the turquoise, ranging from sky blue to soft brown veining. The necklace is finished with unmarked but tested sterling silver cones and a traditional hook clasp, while the matching earrings feature sterling French hooks accented with small silver beads.
In Zuni culture, animal fetishes are carved to embody the spirit and qualities of the creature depicted. Though dolphins are a more contemporary motif, their fluid form symbolizes playfulness, intelligence, and emotional harmony—qualities consistent with traditional Zuni beliefs in the life force of natural beings.
