Navajo Silver and Turquoise Cuff Bracelet
A bold and sculptural Navajo cuff bracelet set with two large natural turquoise stones in hand-fabricated sterling silver. The vertically aligned cabochons form a strong, architectural composition that emphasizes stone mass and material presence—characteristics closely associated with Navajo statement silverwork of the third quarter of the 20th century.
The turquoise stones are substantial and high-domed, displaying vivid blue coloration with pronounced natural matrix and scattered metallic inclusions. Their freeform shapes and varied surface characteristics underscore their natural origin.
The silverwork is confidently executed and entirely hand fabricated. Each stone is secured within a hand-cut bezel accented by twisted rope wire, a classic Navajo framing technique that enhances depth and contrast. The composition is enriched by applied silver raindrops and sculptural fan-shaped stamped elements, feather-like in form, which flank and separate the stones and add visual rhythm. The wide cuff band is formed from multiple forged silver bars in a heavy split-shank construction, providing structural integrity and a balanced, comfortable fit on the wrist. The reverse reveals a substantial backing plate and visible handwork. No maker’s mark is present, consistent with many Navajo works of this period.
