A substantial Navajo cuff bracelet featuring a large, boldly executed cluster of natural turquoise stones set in hand-fabricated sterling silver. The domed shield-form face is composed of thirty freeform turquoise cabochons, each individually shaped and bezel-set, creating a dynamic surface animated by natural variation in color and matrix.
The bracelet reflects the confident scale and structural emphasis characteristic of Navajo silversmithing during the third quarter of the 20th century, a period noted for powerful statement forms and the use of heavy-gauge silver. The cluster is accented with applied silver drops, while the reverse reveals a thick backing plate and a triple split-shank cuff, forged for strength and balance on the wrist.
The turquoise displays a range of blue to green-blue hues with visible natural matrix, consistent with Southwestern material utilized by Navajo artists of the period. No maker’s mark is present, a common feature among Navajo works of this era.
