Mazowia Bentwood Side Chair — Made in Poland, Mid-20th Century
Vintage bentwood side chair marked “MAZOWIA / MADE IN POLAND” beneath the seat, retaining traces of the original paper manufacturer’s label. Produced by the Mazowia Furniture Works in Poland, this piece reflects the enduring Central European bentwood tradition pioneered by Thonet in the 19th century. Crafted using steam-bent beechwood, the chair features an elegant double-arched backrest, circular seat with subtle radial patterning, and gracefully curved legs joined by a round stretcher. Finished in a dark stain with a naturally aged patina that highlights its character.
Mazowia was among several mid-century Polish makers continuing the renowned bentwood craft for export and domestic use—celebrated for its lightweight strength and timeless café style design. A fine collectible example of European bentwood craftsmanship with both functional and historical appeal.
Condition
Good overall, with some finish wear consistent with age and use. Two modern replacement screws are present underneath. The chair remains stable and displays well.
