Empire Revival Mahogany Settee with Carved Lion Heads & Red Velvet Upholstery
This impressive late 19th to early 20th century Empire Revival mahogany settee features richly carved lion-head arm supports, stylized winged scrolls, and robust paw feet—hallmarks of the neoclassical influence that defined the Empire and later Renaissance Revival movements. The crest rail is detailed with a deeply carved acanthus motif, and the seat and tufted back are upholstered in sumptuous deep red velvet, finished with period-appropriate trim.
The design reflects the grandeur and strength admired in the original early 19th-century Empire style, while incorporating the romantic detailing favored during the Victorian era’s revival of classical forms. Its bold presence and elegant craftsmanship make it an exceptional statement piece for an entryway, parlor, or period-inspired interior.
Condition:
Good overall. Some faint surface wear and light rubbing to armrests from use. The upholstery is in excellent condition, showing no damage or stains. Frame remains sturdy with a warm, even mahogany tone and subtle age-appropriate patina.
Dimensions:
Overall: 40 1/4" H x 48 1/2" W x 24" D
