Description

William & Mary Style Oak Library Steps – Solid Wood, 1950s, on Casters

Evoking the refined atmosphere of an old English library, this elegant set of oak library steps combines craftsmanship, beauty, and utility in perfect measure. Handcrafted of solid oak, the ladder features five graduated treads framed by sculpted side panels and topped with finely turned spool uprights supporting a graceful curved handle. Mounted on smooth-rolling swivel ball casters, it offers both function and effortless charm — designed for use among towering bookshelves or as a statement piece in a study or boutique interior.

In the style of 17th-century William & Mary design, this mid-20th-century example reflects the era’s admiration for heritage craftsmanship. Comparable examples have commanded notable results at major auction houses, underscoring the enduring desirability of such fine oak furnishings.

Condition

Good condition overall, displaying scratches, scuffing, and light wear consistent with age and honest use. A small ½" chip is noted on the second step from the bottom. Finish retains a rich luster and appealing patina. Casters roll freely, structure is stable and sound
