Description

1970s LEGO Lot with 948 Expert Builder Set, 787 Play Mat & 7 lbs

Extensive vintage LEGO collector’s lot featuring hallmark items from LEGO’s late-1970s golden era. Included is the LEGO Expert Builder Set No. 948 Go-Kart (c.1978) with its original box, the rare LEGO 787-1 Play Mat with Drawstring (1977), two early LEGO Idea BooksBook 1 (Set 221, 1973) and Idea Book No. 2 (1977)—and two classic baseplates (approx. 12½ × 7½ in. and 7½ × 10¼ in.).

Also accompanying the featured sets is an additional 7 lbs of assorted vintage LEGO bricks and parts, primarily from the same 1970s–early 1980s period. These include original “Legoland”-era elements, classic wheels, Technic beams, and early minifigure accessories—an excellent resource for restoration or display enhancement.

The 948 Go-Kart is among LEGO’s first mechanical builds, predating the formal Technic line. The 787 Play Mat—crafted in denim with red drawstring, brass grommets, and LEGO logo tag—is an authentic, seldom-seen accessory that doubles as storage and play surface.

Condition

Good overall vintage condition. The 787 Play Mat shows two small punctures and light age wear; stitching and drawstring remain secure. Both booklets exhibit visible wear to bindings but are complete and legible. The 948 set is offered as shown, with box showing moderate shelf wear. All LEGO components display signs of age and play consistent with 1970s use.
