Mid-Century Foldable Dinette—Samsonite Table, Cosco Chairs
A classic mid-century pairing: a maker-marked Samsonite square folding table with mottled green laminate and four Hamilton Cosco folding chairs in creamy vinyl over champagne-bronze tubular steel. Samsonite—founded by the Shwayder family—built a thriving furniture arm that produced folding tables and chairs for years from its Murfreesboro, Tennessee subsidiary, making card-table sets a household staple by the mid-1950s.
The chairs come from Cosco (short for COlumbus Specialty Company), founded in 1935 in Columbus, Indiana, renowned for sturdy, stylish kitchen furniture; the under-seat labels and frame profile align with Cosco’s celebrated mid-century “Stylaire” family. Together they capture the bright, practical optimism of postwar American design—folds in seconds for game night, craft rooms, or a retro kitchen vignette.
Condition
Fair. Three of four chairs show vinyl tears/punctures; frames have scattered overspray that’s largely discreet in normal use. Table laminate has a small puncture with typical surface wear. All mechanisms fold and lock; solid as-is and a fine candidate for light restoration.
