Julian Jimenez Beaded Terra Cotta Mini Jar, Signed
This miniature beaded terra cotta jar is a finely crafted folk art piece decorated in a Huichol/Wixárika-style chaquira beadwork technique. The rounded ceramic form is completely hand-adorned with tightly set multicolor glass seed beads arranged in repeating geometric and floral motifs. Rich tones of red, blue, green, yellow, white, and black create a bold, rhythmic pattern that wraps the vessel evenly, demonstrating careful workmanship despite the small scale.
The underside is hand-signed “Julian Jimenez Lopez” (as written), adding individual artisan character and collectible appeal. The jar is formed from terra cotta and appears intended primarily as a decorative object rather than utilitarian ware. Pieces of this type are traditionally made by pressing beads individually into a wax- or resin-based adhesive, resulting in the distinctive raised texture seen here.
Its compact size makes it ideal for display in a curio cabinet, on a shelf, or as part of a folk or Indigenous art collection. Though small, the vivid beadwork and signed base give this piece strong visual presence and charm.
Condition
Good condition with no damage. The terra cotta body is intact, and the beadwork remains securely attached. Light handling wear is consistent with age and careful display. Signature on the base is clear and legible.
