Jim Spurlock Rocky Mt. Aspen Signed Folk Art Turned Wood Vessel
Signed handcrafted folk art lidded vessel by Jim Spurlock, produced under Rocky Mt. Aspen Custom Handcrafts, Mancos, Colorado. Expertly turned from a single solid piece of native aspen wood, this sculptural form displays a balanced, organic silhouette with a rounded base, narrow neck, and dome-shaped lid. The surface is finished to a warm honey tone that accentuates the natural grain and subtle figuring of the aspen. The underside bears both the Rocky Mt. Aspen ink stamp and Spurlock’s handwritten signature, confirming authenticity.
Jim Spurlock (1940s–2020) was a Colorado artisan known for fine turned-wood forms produced in the Cortez–Mancos region. His studio, Rocky Mountain Aspen, specialized in using locally sourced aspen for distinctive hand-turned folk art vessels and bowls. This piece represents a strong example of late 20th-century American studio woodturning with regional character and craftsmanship.
Condition
Excellent condition with no remarkable damage. The surface remains smooth and finely finished, showing only minimal wear consistent with careful display. The lid fits properly with no cracks or separations.
