Talavera Mexican Pottery Plate – Hand Painted Rooster, 18" Wall Display
Large hand-painted Mexican ceramic wall plate, marked “Hecho en Mexico” on the reverse and bearing the hand-painted initials CA and ZC, likely identifying individual artisans or a small workshop rather than a factory or certified Talavera workshop. Pieces marked in this manner are typical of Mexican folk and Talavera-style pottery produced for decorative use and export, where artists often signed with initials instead of full names or formal seals.
The front features a boldly rendered rooster at center, surrounded by stylized floral motifs and scalloped borders in warm yellow, red, green, and black glazes. A fine crackle glaze covers the surface, consistent with traditional decorative techniques and adding visual depth and character. The symmetrical composition and vivid palette reflect classic Mexican folk art aesthetics influenced by Talavera traditions.
The reverse shows exposed terracotta rings and retains its original wire hanger, indicating the piece was intended for wall display. A striking decorative example well suited for rustic, country, or traditional interiors.
Condition:
In good condition overall, with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The crackle glaze is part of the original finish. Color remains strong, with light surface variations consistent with hand-painted pottery.
Dimensions:
Diameter: 18 inches
Wire wall hanger attached on reverse for display.
