Navajo Black Bear Kachina Doll w/ Removable Mask Signed F.M.
This Navajo Black Bear kachina doll features a dramatic removable fur mask with vivid red eyes and a carved mouth, allowing the figure to be displayed masked or unmasked. Hand-carved in wood and finished with traditional-style painted details in red, black, white, turquoise, and green, it’s further enhanced with leather ties, horsehair accents, and vinyl elements that add texture and contrast. The figure’s apron-style panel and dotted/geometrics contribute to its strong Southwestern presentation.
Signed “F.M.” on the underside of the base, this piece includes the separate bear mask shown in the photos and stands on its original carved wood base. A striking example for collectors of Navajo carving and kachina figures.
Condition
In good condition overall, with some scuffs visible on the chest area. Light surface wear is present throughout, consistent with age and handling. No remarkable damage noted. The removable mask, leather elements, and base remain intact.
