Southwestern Gourd Storyteller Figure, Turquoise & Fetishes—Signed “Pat”
Hand-crafted Southwestern gourd art figure depicting a “storyteller” woman, signed “Pat” on an underside label. The form uses a natural gourd painted black with lavender and turquoise geometric motifs, wrapped in purple cotton, and finished with horsehair. Jewelry includes turquoise nuggets, glass beads, and earrings; in her hands hangs a round turquoise accent suspending two animal fetishes with inlaid eyes. The open mouth and expressive stance reference the Pueblo storyteller tradition popularized in the 1960s, here interpreted in contemporary folk-art materials. Weighted for stability, it displays beautifully and brings vivid Southwestern color to a shelf or entry table.
Condition
Excellent overall with no damage or repairs observed. Paint is intact; fabric and beadwork are secure; minor natural gourd irregularities only
