Vintage Hand-Painted Folk Art Carnival Wheel
This vintage folk art carnival game wheel dates to the early 20th century, circa 1905–1925, and is crafted from hand-painted plywood with traditional fairground construction. Designed for wall mounting, the wheel features heart-shaped cutouts, bold painted striping, and numbered sections originally used for games of chance. A perimeter of evenly spaced nails produces the characteristic clicking sound when spun.
The wheel retains its original overall form and folk-art character; however, some elements and metal hardware may be more recent replacements, consistent with prolonged use and maintenance in carnival or amusement settings. The wheel spins smoothly and remains fully functional. Built for utility rather than decoration, this piece offers strong visual presence and authentic Americana appeal for collectors of folk art and carnival history.
Condition:
Fully functional and tested. Shows age-appropriate wear including chips to the plywood, paint loss, surface cracking, and absent numbers. Oxidation present to metal elements. Some hardware appears to be later replacements. Structurally sound and stable for display.
