Custom-made pair of Designs for Vision surgical loupes, engraved J. Ameriks, M.D., housed in the original fitted wooden case. The black eyeglass-style frame, marked 6 U.S.A. and 48–22, features dual magnifying telescopic optics for precision surgical or dental work. The dovetail-joined case includes the manufacturer’s label reading “The Designs for Vision’s Surgical Telescopes — Custom Made for J. Ameriks, M.D.” along with a brass and steel Excelsior, Stamford, Conn. latch and a custom-molded interior insert.
Designs for Vision, Inc. was a pioneering American optical firm specializing in professional magnification tools for surgeons and dentists. Personalized sets like this—retaining both original case and engraving—are sought after by collectors of vintage medical, optical, and scientific instruments for their craftsmanship and provenance.
