Description

La Palma El Salvador Folk Art Cross, Hand Painted Solid Wood

his wall-mountable, hand-painted folk art cross is crafted from solid wood and features a vibrant devotional scene centered on the Holy Family. The central figure cradles an infant, flanked by pastoral village imagery, animals, and attendants, all rendered in bold color fields with strong black outlines. A stylized angel anchors the lower vertical panel, completing the symbolic composition.

The reverse bears a stamped mark reading “SAN FRANCISCO DE ASÍS – La Palma, El Salvador”, indicating origin from La Palma, a region internationally recognized for its mid-to-late 20th century folk art tradition. The imagery, color palette, and naïve graphic style are consistent with Salvadoran folk devotional works produced for both local use and export.

Painted within recessed areas of the wood, the piece has subtle dimensional depth and strong visual presence, making it an appealing religious and cultural collectible.

Condition

In fair condition overall, with visible paint loss, surface cracking, and wear consistent with age and hand-painted construction.
