Early 1900s Dome-Top Steamer Trunk with 1912–1913 Illustrated Magazine Lining
Early 20th-century dome-top steamer trunk featuring an exterior of black-painted wood with riveted metal bands and hardware, now showing handsome age and travel wear. The interior lid is lined with colorful magazine pages from Woman’s World (July 1912) and Sunday Magazine of the Sunday Record-Herald (June 1913), both published in Chicago, Illinois. The imagery includes Edwardian-era portraits and romantic illustrations, offering both historic and decorative appeal.
The trunk retains its removable tray (partially missing a section) and interior paper lining, a wonderful reflection of turn-of-the-century craftsmanship and style. A visually captivating piece ideal for vintage décor, retail display, or historical collections.
Condition
Good condition with age-appropriate wear. Exterior shows chipped paint, surface abrasions, and scattered losses to finish. Handles are replacements, and the key is missing. Interior tray is present but missing a section. Structural integrity remains solid, with period paper lining and hardware displaying authentic patina.
