Zenith Model Y724 Tube Portable Radio “Royalty of Radio” c.1953
Mid-century Zenith Model Y724 portable AM/FM tube radio, circa 1953. The piece features Zenith’s signature black textured leatherette case with gold-tone trim and fold-down front panel marked ZENITH. Inside, the cream dial face displays the brand’s royal crest and slogan “The Royalty of Radio,” with twin ivory knobs and a gold mesh speaker grille below. Equipped with Zenith’s five-tube chassis (7ZT40Z) and 49CZ658 speaker, this model captures the blend of craftsmanship and portability that defined Zenith’s postwar design aesthetic.
A fine display example of classic American radio engineering, ideal for collectors or mid-century décor settings.
Condition:
Fair overall. Shows visible scratches, scuffing, and general wear to the exterior. The dial cover is cracked, and there are old repairs to the dial hinge. Unit powers on and produces sound but does not tune to any station. Sold as found, for restoration or display.
